LG V20 Screen Replacement
December 20, 2019
So I actually did this screen replacement nearly a year ago. I wanted to make sure that the repair was actually successful before I decided to post it. Otherwise it wouldn’t be a very goo repair would it? So, a little background story. In January of 2018 when I was sorting out my last few weeks working at Canadian Tire I was doing an alignment on a family vehicle and when I sent a text letting my family member know it was done it happened. I dropped my precious LG V20 10ft right onto the alignment rack. In the midst of all the chaos of moving and finding a new job I dropped my phone and not just cracked the screen I smashed the screen.

Not hard to say that I was devastated about what happened but was thankful that the phone still fully functioned. So after a few weeks I took advantage of my free upgrade and got myself an LG G7 ThinQ. However, my precious V20 was still functional so I decided to keep it. Then a few months go by and my mother’s Huawei Ascend Mate 2 started to fail. So I was on a mission and found a replacement screen and digitizer for $80. At this point I was comfortable with my new phone and had nothing to lose when tearing apart my V20.

In the last few pics I actually had to disassemble the phone because I forgot the range finding gasket which is beside the camera hole. Forgetting this small rubber gasket will effectively make the range finder non functional and cause issues like your screen not turning off when you hold the phone to your ear. At least it allowed me to see how the thermal paste was spreading. On the left I probably should have used a thermal pad but didn’t have any at the time so I just added some more non conductive thermal paste.
So after several months the phone is still running strong (knock on wood) and is now living on as my mother’s new phone.
